Monday Members of the Seawolf Dive Club conducted a dive on the Single Point Mooring several kilometers out to sea from what used to be Port Stanvac. The underwater structure had become a vibrant artificial reef attracting large numbers of local reef fish plus schools of various fish such as whiting and snapper at various times. In sheltered areas you would find large number of Bull’s Eye fish as well as bait fish.
On Monday the site virtually devoid of the vegetation that had once covered the structure and was replaced with a layer of brown silt which clouded the water when touched.
However what was amazing was the number of spider crabs that were on the structure and the supporting equipment and chains. This made it an interesting dive watching the antics of these creatures.
Below the first three photos were taken last year before the algae bloom and the remaining show what it was like on Monday.
