Expecting extreme temperatures on Thursday seven members of the Sea Wolves Dive club decided to cool down with two excellent dives. The first was at the disused Single Point Mooring about two miles out of O’Sullivan Beach Boat Ramp.
Just before departure the wind picked up causing a small wind chop which made it very wet for those using the inflatable. As we prepared for the dive at the Single Point Mooring, surface conditions where a bit lumpy. However, once in the water conditions were excellent. On the mooring at about 23 meters there was millions of fish in various sizes and several large schools. There was also a large Wobbegong Shark lying between two of the tanks. Several large blue swimmer crabs were seen and collected.
Once back on the surface the wind had dropped out completely and the sea was calm. This allowed for a comfortable ride to the second dive at the Dump. This site is several hundred meters north of what is left of the Port Stanvac Jetty.
Conditions were perfect at the dump. Very little current and good visibility made for a great dive. The water temp was around 23C and visibility at least 10 meters. All the pontoons were alive with fish. Swimming around the area schools of different fish came and investigated the divers.
There was also several anchors recovered whilst at the dump.
Unfortunately with air running low after nearly 80 minutes in the water we returned to the surface and then headed back to the boat.
